The Federative Republic of Brazil is the largest  country in South America. By land area, its the fifth largest in the world, and the seventh most populated. It is comprised of 26 states, and a federal district.

Brazil features a variety of ecosystems, and as such is ranked as the most diverse of the 17 megadiverse countries. Culturally, Brazil is ranked 13th in the world by number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
